Allah Al-Aleem – A Review

Bismillah,

Allah Al-Aleem Front Cover

Age Range: I would say 3+

Author: Bint Abdul Hamid

Illustrator : Zahra Gulraiz

Publisher: Prolance

Price : $12

What to expect: An introduction to one of the many attributes of Allah: Al-Aleem (The All-Knowing)

Summary: The best gift we can give our children is the knowledge of Tawheed, to know their Creator. Knowing Allah by His names will help establish their roots, and help them to attach to Allah out of love of His perfection. May Allah help us to fulfill the responsibility of bringing up our children knowing Allah and worshipping Him alone.

ThoughtsAllah Al-Aleem is a must have for young Muslim readers and young muminun. It exposes them early on to the qualities of their Al-Khaliq (The Creator). Children have so many questions. We try to answer them as much as we can and sometimes we fall short. For instance, “Mommy, why is the sky blue?” The answer to this question will not be a short reply to small minds.

Parents can appease the curiosity of Muslim children by telling them that only Allahu alim (Allah knows best). Insha’Allah, with  Allah Al-Aleem as a supporting teaching aidthe muminun will be satisfied with some of the answers we give them.

Fofky’s – An Online Book and Coffee/Tea Shop

Between Sisters, SVP!

Bismillah,

Fofky’s
An Online Book and Coffee/Tea Shop

The saying goes as this, “If the mountain won’t come to Muhammad then Muhammad must go to the mountain.” In other words, If one’s will does not prevail, one must submit to an alternative.

The writers of the ummah I’ve come across all agree that we need a Muslim space where Muslim works are shelved/stocked; especially Muslim fiction. So an idea struck me alhamdullilah. If I can’t do something about the brick-mortar way to help the ummah, I will bring it to the comfort of Muslim readers’ homes!

Thus Fofky’s was born. It will be an An Online Book and Coffee/Tea Shop insha’Allah and I’m happy to share this happy moment with you masha’Allah. God willing, you will be able to order a book you anticipate you read, order a drink (a pack of tea or coffee), order sweets (halal marshmallows, halal chocolate…

A Small Fortune of Books – Djarabi Kitabs

Between Sisters, SVP!

Assalamu aleikum dear bloggers and readers,

Small fortune books.JPGDjarabi Kitabs Publishing‘s e-store is now live alhamdullilah. You might ask why I chose to do this when these books can be found at major distributors.

Well for one, mine are tax free. And two, finding Muslim books in a sea of other books has led many to believe that Muslim voices haven’t been written yet. Yes, we need more voices but writing is not a new thing to us. Many of our works have been destroyed when the House of Wisdom in Bagdad was sacked or by Muslims themselves due to ignorance. Timbuktu in Mali also has valuable manuscripts that are still buried in the people’s homes or in the ground out of trust issues. People are afraid that giving them to the public will cause them to be stolen or misused.

There are MANY, MANY, MANY…books written by Muslims out there…

The Dino Flu – A Review

Bismillah,

dino 5

I finally get to review a book I’ve wanted to read for quite some time now alhamdullilah. The Dino Flu is a Muslim authored children’s book by American Muslim Author Sahar Abdulaziz.

dino 2 edit

ILLUSTRATOR : Rashidah Mendez, a New York-native digital artist, and mother of four received her Bachelor’s, Summa Cum Laude, from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. Although she switched her area of study from Early Childhood Education to Media Communication and Technology, she finds it rewarding to integrate the two disciplines. Mendez’s work exhibits her passion for digital art through her graphic designs and visual marketing and reflects her love for early childhood literacy through her children’s books, like “The Dino Flu” and others, soon to be released.

SUMMARY: UGH! Poor Dino is stuck in bed with the flu. Dino doesn’t like being sick at all. But instead of feeling sorry for himself, Dino uses the wonderful gift of imagination. Follow Dino through his many adventures of imaginary proportion!

THOUGHTS: The power of imagination allows Dino to see the glass half full and it can help sick children distract themselves when they face an illness by doing the same.

dino 3 edit

Below is one beautiful illustration of what he rather do than being sick.

The Dino Flu is very clever and lovely. I bought my copy on Amazon here. If you get the paperback, you can get the eBook for $2.99 . It’s a bargain.

Jazak’Allah khair for reading,

Mr. Ramadhan Moon – A Review

Bismillah,

ramadan moon 1

Author: S.R.M aka Salma Raja Malik is a 29 year old mom of 3 young boys and an Occupational Therapist. She was inspired by her children and her first generation Muslim American experiences to create a holiday toy/book that is relate-able to Muslim children. She also works with special needs children and is training to provide pelvic floor therapy.

Illustrator :  Haleema Tahir Gul is a 25 year old fashion designer with the love for illustrations. Other than running her own clothing brand called “Lemon by H”, she works for a known Pret company and loves painting little illustrations in her spare time.

Thoughts: Mr. Ramadhan Moon is one of the cutest and creative children’s story I have ever read. Mr. Ramadhan Moon is also a nice and welcomed change from the assumption that the moon is of female gender. It accompanies children and family in a love and supporting journey.

Check out some pictures below:

ramadan moon 4

Mr. Ramadhan Moon is a reminder of salat and thoughtful play in the pic above masha’Allah.

ramadan moon 3

Mr. Ramadhan Moon is a reminder to children to brush their teeth with miswak or a toothbrush.

ramadan interfaith

Mr. Ramadhan Moon is also an interfaith activist.

ramadan moon 2

Mr. Ramadhan Moon is a tea party buddy.

ramadan moon

Mr. Ramadhan Moon embraces diversity alhamdullilah.

Mr. Ramadhan Moon makes a wonderful gift before the Eid and after the Eid. You can buy your copy plus the toy here on Etsy. It’s a bit pricy but Ramadhan is once a year so please splurge a little 😉 insha’Allah to support this small Muslim business. And 10% of the profits go the Syrian crisis aid masha’Allah. This will be money well spent insha’Allah.

Rating: 5/5

The one I received from the boutique is a mini journal that fits pretty much anywhere especially in a woman’s purse. Azyaan is the only US supplier at the moment so hurry up and get a copy before she runs out! Because walaye, they do fly off the shelf! I actually did a review for it here but I started another 30 day journey again. I’ll share the review once again with you when I’m done insha’Allah. In the meantime, I can tell you this though, on day 8 which was this past Saturday, I met Haleh Banani! I recognize her soul before even seeing her face from afar. I kept telling my husband, ‘I know this woman.’ Until we got closer and she waved at me. She was so nice and lovely masha’Allah! We chatted a bit and exchanged numbers. I told her who I was hehe… She knows I don’t look anything special ;).

THE BIG RECONNECTING SELF LOVE JOURNAL

self love

I have been on a self love journey since the beginning of the hijri calendar and this is very nice to have. The text is in black and the designs are simply lovely masha’Allah. My two younger sisters received a copy each masha’Allah. That’s how generous the authors have been alhamdullilah! You can buy your copy here insha’Allah.

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Give each other gifts and you will love each other.” This is what it is indeed.
